Guide Dog in Training

Hello My Name is Kona

I am a Guide Dog in Training

SCS is excited to introduce Kona, a guide dog in training. We have partnered with Guide Dogs of America and are honored to sponsor Kona’s training and care as she embarks—pun intended—on her journey to be a official guide dog. Click here to learn more about this amazing organization.

Kona has a lot of work and fun ahead, which we will be following along with the whole time. The first 18 months will be spent with her foster family, known as puppy raiser. Here she will gain basic obedience training and other fundamentals every good guide dog needs. Check back often or like and follow on Facebook @scselevatorproducts to ensure you get all the latest updates, photos and more.

Once Kona has the basics mastered she will be ready for the formal training program. Upon graduation she will be placed with a visually impaired person and complete the journey to her furever family.

Kona started her first obedience class last night at Guide Dogs of America. Her sister Kuma (shown in the forefront of photo) and several other puppies are also in the class. The classes will run for the next 6 weeks for 1 1/2 hrs. We worked on loose leash walking, sits and introduced stand, down, and calm greetings when people approach us.
